Purpose of Role

Located in the UK (Office / Remote) and reporting to the Group Head of Technology, we are seeking to hire a Lead Data Engineer.  The role will be responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining our cloud data infrastructure.

The Lead Data Engineer is a new role within the group technology function and the data strategy is being built to support ISP’s “School of Choice” framework.   The post holder will be expected to work closely with our project manager and external data consultancy partners to deliver on our key objectives

In addition, the Lead Data Engineer will be expected to work closely with our core systems team, data analytics team and functional heads.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Engineer will be responsible owning the following aspects of our data strategy

  • Build and maintain our data processing architecture
  • Implementing and managing a robust access control model
  • Initial setup and ongoing management of the cloud data infrastructure
  • Development of cloud-based ELT/ETL processes
  • Ensure readiness for data ingestion from any new sources
  • Technical owner for the cloud data infrastructure, managing change and enhancements
  • Ensuring high levels of data security and compliance
  • Managing data retention
  • Supporting the data analytics team with any new data requests

About You

Experience and skills required

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent)
  • Microsoft Azure / AWS Data Engineer certified (or equivalent)
  • 5 years or more work experience in a similar capacity
  • Demonstrated experience developing and operationalizing complex data projects
  • Experienced in developing ELT/ETL data pipelines
  • Solid understanding data lake and data mesh technologies
  • Data management and report dashboard experience a bonus
  • Self-starter with strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate others
  • Excellent written & spoken interpersonal skills in English (Spanish advantageous)
