Job Purpose:

The Health, Safety and Environment Officer is responsible for overseeing health, safety and environmental policies and procedures. Review and develop health and safety guidelines and assists school personnel in understanding occupational health and safety hazards. The Officer plays a role in monitoring the school infrastructure and assets and also ensures the safety of students and staff on campus.

Main Responsibilities:

·       Participates in the development of Health and Safety internal policies, procedures and working practices within the school

·       Conducts risk assessments and develops strategies for facilitating employee/student health and safety risks

·       Outlines safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards

·       Conducts regular site/laboratory inspections to ensure adherence to Health and Safety policies and procedures

·       Prepares and maintains inspection records and produces reports that suggest improvements

·       Maintains incident records and produces statistics for management as required

·       Investigates and reports on all personal injury accidents and damage to property occurring on campus and document in an incident report

·       Maintains a working knowledge of Health and Safety best practices and industry policy changes

·       Maintain DOT and EDC permits/licences for all necessary staff

·       Advises on a range of specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases

·       Provides safety orientations and oversee the performance of all contractors in order to ensure safe work practices are followed

·       Initiates and organizes safety awareness campaigns, including occupational safety workshops and training sessions, in an effort to ensure that students and staff observe established safety guidelines and procedures

·       Initiates and conducts emergency evacuation drills

·       Carries out regular safety and security inspections of various college facilities, systems and equipment, including first-aid rooms, construction areas, electrical systems, fire extinguishers and fire hydrants to ensure compliance with international standards

·       Provides immediate support and assistance in the event of an emergency

·       To act as liaison with all related governmental bodies

·       Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Minimum Educational Qualifications Required for the Role

Bachelors in relevant field: Health & Safety Certification

Minimum Years of Experience Required

4 years’ experience working in facilities maintenance; Health & Safety qualifications

Language Skills

English is mandatory

Arabic is an advantage

Special Skills and Abilities

Competencies:

·       Knowledge of Fire and Safety systems and equipment

·       The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to college operations and activities

·       A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace

·       Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization

·       Well-developed organizational skills

·       The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment and to cope with pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment

·       A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization

·       Able to work irregular hours and on weekends
