The Vice Principal (Prep) is the face of the Prep School, working directly with the Principal on all matters relating to learning, pastoral management and leadership. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the school, leading and managing the staff and students.

You model and foster an open culture and inclusive atmosphere where everyone looks out for one another and focuses on learning and getting better. The Vice Principal will be an innovator, looking for opportunities to develop the school’s offering to meet the changing demands of the market. In your line management of the Director of Studies you will play a critical role in defining the academic direction of the school. You will lead in pastoral management, acting as DDSL and working with a team of Phase Leads to ensure that all students are making progress. You will play a crucial role in whole-school strategy and development and promote both the educational and commercial welfare of the school. The Vice Principal reports and is directly responsible to the Principal. From time to time you will also work, when requested, with ISP’s Regional Team. Key Responsibilities
The Vice Principal (Prep) shares many of the same responsibilities and accountabilities as the Principal, supporting him/her in the promotion of Claremont as the school of choice in the local community. You hold specific responsibilities relating to the pastoral and safeguarding management of the school and lead in the development of a strong learning culture amongst both students and staff in all areas of Prep School life.

1. Leadership and Development. You lead the Prep School with vision, empathy and integrity. You connect, collaborate and engage with colleagues throughout the school and have a clear understanding of what is going on in each area of the school; you lead in the recruitment, develop and retention of talent; you support the professional development of your staff, ensuring that the TLSE is carried out across the school; you work with the Principal and staff to ensure all aspects of the Prep School meet the requirements for ISI inspection; you take a International Schools Partnership - General Document lead role in the preparation of pre-inspection documentation such as SIP and LIP for the Prep School, and provide the necessary guidance and support to all staff prior and during the inspection; you are attuned to the needs of others, helping to discover, nurture and amplify staff strengths and inspiring your leadership team to do the same.
2. Wellbeing and safety: You are responsible for the safety and wellbeing for all students and adults in your school. This includes all activities, functions and policies to ensure students and adults are kept safe both physically and mentally enabling them to learn without barriers. You work in partnership with your colleagues to learn from their feedback and you collaborate on action plans and improvements. Your school is a welcoming, safe, supportive and inspiring space for everyone to grow and develop. You act as DDSL for the school and are responsible for all matters relating to Safeguarding and Health & Safety at the Prep School.
3. Management of Phase Leads: You lead and support the Intermediate and Senior Phase Leads in the pastoral and behaviour management of students in the school; you assist the Phase Leads in investigating complaints and concerns from students and report findings of all investigations to appropriate staff, recording the outcome accurately and comprehensively; you will support them in their role managing contact with parents and in running the discipline and attendance systems, supporting staff issuing warnings; to support the Phase Leads in the growth and delivery of PSHE/SMSC and co-curricular provision at the Prep
4. Promote Learning. You empower your staff to focus on the quality of learning in your school, working in partnership with them to ensure progress towards the 9 criteria in the ISP Learning Improvement Process; you promote the ‘Five Pillars’ and work with whole school colleagues in their application at the Prep; you facilitate and engage in a professional and respectful dialogue with teachers and parents about learning and teaching, inspiring a shared commitment to getting better; you line manage and support the Director of Studies (DOS) in maintaining and developing an innovative and demanding curriculum; you model ‘leading the learning’ inside and outside the classroom; you support the DOS in gathering, documenting and analysing evidence of learning from around your school and use this to inform your decision-making process.
5. Marketing, Admissions and Communication. With the Principal, you are involved with the Prep School’s retention and progression strategies, actively working with teams both within and outside Prep School to ensure the retention of existing students as well as the attraction of new students; you are a clear and compelling storyteller, articulating the vision and story of the Prep School and ISP in a way that inspires parents, students and colleagues; you ensure that prospective families have the best and most personalised experience possible during the admissions process; you lead in the management of open days and work with colleagues on other initiatives that promote the school.
6. Partnership with Parents, Carers and the wider community. You lead the Prep School in the building of effective relationships; you understand our students and their families and you focus on identifying opportunities to provide value to students and their families beyond their expectations; you will seek regular feedback from Parents through surveys and meetings, fostering a culture of partnership; you seek opportunities to help parents and carers understand the school’s shared ideas about learners and learning; you are accessible and International Schools Partnership - General Document available to parents and carers and ensure their individual needs are understood and that they feel informed and involved as valued members of the school’s learning community.
7. Financial Management: you manage the Prep School ‘Day School Budget’; you work with colleagues to ensure that resources are utilised in an efficient manner that maximises the learning opportunities for students; you support the Principal in the ensuring that the Prep School is financially prudent; you support the Finance team in maintaining the commercial wellbeing of the Prep School.
8. Strategic Development & Leadership: you will play a leading role in the Whole School Leadership Team (WSLT); you contribute to whole school strategy and planning; you understand your collective responsibility to the school and ISP, successfully balancing the school’s interests with the ISP vision and strategy.

Claremont School is an independent day and boarding school. The Nursery and the Prep School are
based in St Leonards on Sea, and the Senior School is located in Bodiam, East Sussex. The school is non selective and welcomes children and young people from a large catchment area spanning 25 miles. In addition, one third of the students in the Senior School are international boarders.
