Regional Assistant Controller US East and Canada

REPORTS TO:                     Regional Controller, US East & Canada

STATUS:                              Exempt/Salaried

DIRECT REPORTS:           No

LOCATION:                       Remote – Pembroke Pines, FL or Miami Area

SALARY:                             $125-135k USD (commensurate with education and experience)

 

Purpose of Role

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented Regional Assistant Controller (RAC) to join our ISP US East & Canada regional finance team. Under the direction of the Regional Controller, US East & CA, the RAC will support the regional finance team members to include – Regional Controller, Regional Finance Director, and Regional Head of FP&A, Regional Tax Manager with various aspects of our accounting and reporting processes, and drive delivery of process improvement initiatives.

 

The RAC will be an experienced accounting transactional and reporting professional; they will be able to coach school-level controllers executing and supporting day-to-day accounting tasks and reporting cycles such as A/P processes, revenue recognition, cash reconciliation, collections, asset accounting, month-end closing activities and system transition according to established policies and procedures in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.

 

To be successful in this role the RAC should display a strong sense of ownership and be fully committed to ensuring accuracy of financial data and providing accounting and finance support to the regional finance and school-level finance teams. In addition, this individual is team-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.

Regular travel is required throughout the US and Canada region up to 15%.

Key Responsibilities

 

Regional Office transactional accounting

  • Full accounting responsibilities for 2 small entities (Regional Office).
  • Supporting full monthly cycle close: Journal Entries, Fixed Assets, Cash reconciliations.
  • Provision & Payments for regional office (A/P), including Intercompany transactions.
  • Coordination with other ISP finance teams and Central Finance team as needed.
  • Coordination with Regional Office external suppliers to support the A/P process.
  • Balance sheet review and reconciliation for regional office companies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supporting regional coordination, in partnership with the Regional Controller

  • Reviewing, challenging, guiding all schools Balance sheets recons prepared by school controllers.
  • Analyzing and summarizing financial statements and trends, review with Regional Controller.
  • Ensuring timely reporting of statutory and financial results by established deadlines.
  • A/R ageing and control: coordination with & guidance for all school controllers.
  • Cash collections reporting: consolidation of school deliverables, review with Regional Controller to submit the Region’s deliverable to Central Finance.
  • Intercompany reconciliation & cash funding within the region, coordination of cash repatriation with Regional Tax Manager and Group Treasury.
  • Fixed Asset management: provide guidance on booking per Group policies and coordinate with FP&A function as needed.
  • Providing guidance and coaching for efficient systems use (NetSuite), Internal controls and school process improvement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Project based responsibilities, in partnership with the Regional Controller
  • When new schools are acquired, supporting onboarding hands on, leading change management.
  • Assisting with systems changes, coordinating with all schools, guiding data cleansing for systems transition.
  • Supporting and participating in yearly external Audits for schools in scope.
  • Assist on ad-hoc projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Requirements

 

  • 5+ years of accounting experience in fast-paced matrix environment or start-up
  • 3+ years’ controlling experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting.
  • Experience working in a global/multinational corporation (multi-entity)
  • Solid understanding of corporate accounting concepts, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated history of solving multiple complex operational and accounting challenges.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize and articulate financial information appropriately based on audience.

  • Advanced skills MS Office, especially Excel including Vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software systems – i.e., Netchex, etc.
  • Ability to learn and operate computerized accounting programs.
  • High degree of confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Excellent aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational, stress and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Consistently interacts positively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to sit at a desk in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Prior school or education industry accounting experience is a plus.
  • Work in a matrix environment.
  • Proven track record in the ability to meet hard deadlines.
