Job title: EAL Teacher
Reporting to: EAL Coordinator / Head of English (Secondary)
 
Purpose of Role
To provide Amazing Learning opportunities so that students continually get better through the delivery of high-quality teaching and the creation of effective resources.

Key Responsibilities
 
Support for all students in the English and EAL department
  • Follow the policies and practices which reflect the school 's commitment to high achievement, amazing learning and effective feedback.
  • Use data effectively to identify pupils who are underachieving in the subject and, where necessary, create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils
  • Attend to children 's personal needs, including pastoral, social, health, physical hygiene, minor first aid and welfare matters.
  • Establish a good relationship with students, be a role model by presenting a positive personal image and respond appropriately to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
  • Under the direction of the EAL Coordinator, prepare suitable materials and resources to help students’ language skills grow.
  • Make full use of ICT in learning activities and develop student's competence and independence in its use.
  • Be aware of any Special Education Needs (SEN) their students may have and methods in supporting them.
Specific Support for EAL Students
  • Plan and deliver small group support lessons for both primary and secondary EAL students.
  • Provide in-class language support to targeted EAL students in their mainstream lessons.
  • Set high expectations for pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
  • Enable, encourage, and motivate EAL students to become independent and confident users of English.
  • Ensure effective development of pupils’ individual and collaborative study skills necessary for them to become increasingly independent in their work and to complete tasks independently when out of school.
  • Establish a partnership with parents and carers to involve them in their child’s learning of the subject, as well as providing information about curriculum, attainment, progress and targets.
  • Work with Head of EAL to monitor students’ attainment and progress.
Support for the Curriculum
  • Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the subject for all pupils, including those of high ability and those with special educational or linguistic needs
  • Keep up to date with any changes in the curricula.
  • Support the Head of English by ensuring collaboration between colleagues in relation to the curricula.
  • Work with the Head of English to monitor student attainment and progress.

Support for the School

  • Be aware of and comply with the safeguarding procedures, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting any concerns to the relevant member of staff.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times.
  • Maintain good relationships with colleagues and work together as a team.
  • Assist in the supervision of classroom and outdoor activities.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work aims of the school.
  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Attend relevant meetings.
  • Participate in training, including relevant learning strategies and other learning activities and appraisal, where required.
 
Communication, Marketing and PR
  • To ensure professional and effective communication and consultation, as appropriate, between colleagues, parents and students at Asia Pacific International School
  • Publicise and celebrate achievements
  • Assist with the organisation of open evenings, consultation events and other events relating to the school
  • To contribute to marketing activities for Asia Pacific International School

  • Fully and positively participate in the school's performance appraisal scheme in order to develop and enhance personal and service performance.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested/assigned as required by SLT or Line Manager, especially with regard to the school's administration function.
  • Ensure that school policies including those relating to Safeguarding, Race Equality, Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct and Health & Safety are adhered to.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Candidates should posses at least a bachelor’s degree and preferably an iPGCE qualification.
  • Candidates must be a native speaker of English.
  • Candidates should be willing to pursue any relevant qualifications their SLT may deem necessary for the role.
