ISP AFL Teacher Role Profile
Purpose of Role
The purpose of the role of AFL Teacher is to promote a love for students of all abilities at the school. They must share the responsibility for planning, teaching and assessments of the subject that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential as well as raise the standards of student attainment and achievement. They must take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy and articulacy as well as set high expectations and standards which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils. The AFL Teacher will be a suitably qualified educator with a proven capacity to lead and effectively deliver teaching and learning to a very high standard. The AFL Teacher will be teaching IBDP level Arabic and have a good knowledge of IB Arabic requirements. They will be accountable for ensuring that children are inspired, motivated and equipped to make as much progress with their learning as possible and as independently as possible. The incumbent will work closely with colleagues and support the work of the school. The AFL Teacher will promote and model good relationships with students, colleagues and parents. They will require initiative, be empathetic and proactive, with a personable and positive character. The post holder will be required to have a positive impact on the work of the school e.g. through subject leadership and extra-curricular activities.

ISP AFL Teacher Key Responsibilities
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
- Establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect
- Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions
- Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which are expected of pupils
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
- Be accountable for pupils’ attainment, progress and outcomes
- Be aware of pupils’ capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these
- Guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made and their emerging needs
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching
- Encourage pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study
- Supporting our IB Arabic B and Ab students to reach their potential in IB Group 2.
Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
- Have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings
- Knowledge of IB Arabic. Understanding of Arabic B and Arabic Ab syllabus
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship
- Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever your specialist subject
Plan and teach well-structured lessons
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time
- Promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity
- Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired
- Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s)
- Contribute to the development of schemes of work and department resources
- Embed IB pedagogy in their lesson planning and delivery.
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
- Know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively
- Have a secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit pupils’ ability to learn, and how best to overcome these
- Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and know how to adapt teaching to support pupils’ education at different stages of development
- Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs; those of high ability; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them
- Have a well-developed working knowledge of IB Arabic.
Make accurate and productive use of assessment
- Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including internal and external assessment requirements
- Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress
- Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
- Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback
- Confident with IB assessments
- Experience of IB oral asessments
Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
- Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy
- Have high expectations of behaviour, and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to pupils’ needs in order to involve and motivate them
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, including fulfilling extra-curricular activity expectations and other ‘out of hours’ requirements
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support
- Deploy support staff effectively
- Take responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, responding to advice and feedback from colleagues
- Contribute fully to the extra-curricular program within the department and assist in the organization and running of curriculum days.

General
- To complete all other tasks that can be reasonably expected of a teacher
- To be fully aware of Health and Safety across the school
Health and Safety
- Emphasizes the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum, communicating to the pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for The Hamilton International School’s property and equipment
- Perform playground duties on time and with due diligence to safeguard Hamilton students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
- Ensure that, all the necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed
- Maintain an awareness of all the health and safety measures to be taken when in school
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
All teachers are expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct.
Teachers must maintain high standards of ethics and behavior, within and outside school, by:
- Treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position
- Having regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being
- Showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others
- Not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from an accredited institution
- Required teaching certification for Qatar MOEHE
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school
- Child Care and Protection
Experience: Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience
Ideally previous experience of teaching IB Arabic A, B or Ab at IBDP level
Language: English is mandatory
